Floyd Revisited

…so they played together again after 20 years! It was worth seeing them united even if in second-hand via a tv broadcast. It would just have been perfect if Syd had decided to join them. They played four songs, Breathe/Speak to Me and Money from Dark Side, Wish You Here from the album of the same name, and finally that masterpiece, Comfortably Numb from The Wall. The last two songs were breathtaking not just because they are among my all-time favorite songs but also because the Floyd haven’t lost any of their magical touch. The solo by Gilmour at the end of Comfortably Numb still sent shivers down my spine. What sheer lyrical poetry their songs are. None have come close to touching their aural, visual and lyrical perfection. They are still the greatest rock band ever in my books!

Waters contrary to his egoistic image seemed emotional and humbled by the occasion. Gilmour was his usual enigmatic self, hardly saying anything while Mason looked like he was having fun perched behind his drum set. But I had one big gripe. Where the hell was Ric Wright?!! It seemed as if the camera men thought Floyd had only 3 members. They hardly ever showed Wright except for some very brief and tantalizing glimpses.

Judging from the body language I think Gilmour and Waters still have some matters to settle between them. They hardly had any eye contact and stayed apart while playing. I hope they do settle their differences and come out with a new album/tour. I miss them sorely.
