Ego-tripping
Inside him there is a hole, a black hole. Enter and it will take you to an alternate world. A world populated by corporeal characters from the soft underside of his inquisitive imagination.
A world which you will never encounter on this side of the sun in your lifetime. A world in which facts fly and words wither. A place where he is the twisted king and the rest of the world is just a boring blip on the pulsing radar of his abnormal senses.
In its valleys you will discover sleeping unicorns dreaming about virgin vitality. On its tallest mountain peaks you will find vaudeville shows of mad scientists and psychotic lawyers. But walk for a little while in its melancholic woods and you will see the fruits of his feverish imagination strung out like electric eyes on the overhead branches. Step into the heavy metal glades and you will hear the metallic clang of wicked guitar lines, the wild throbbing of double bass and the motionless rage implicit in a moody love song. You can spend years in that balmy boarding house and not scratch the subtle surface.
It so transpired that he was not born with this creative hole. But that did not stop him. He carefully imploded his shy social sunshine to manufacture it and then poured into it the fires of his repressed personality. An easy recipe isn’t it? Try it at your own risk!
One last thing. Imagine and illustrate. Think and talk. Enjoy and eviscerate. Act and announce. Only then you might visualize the coursing center of his hole’s holy altar. And now sing with him…
A drop of doped inanity
A cup of cultivated answers
Shower
This land of pleasant left-overs
Seeding
New wombs with maternal maturity, and
Old wells with cubist cunts

finnegan: As I said before I’ve never managed to read Manga comics…perhaps I should…

I saw all this unfold in my head - manga style! Manga - That’s exactly it actually.
Amazing. I had the precise same take on it Extempore. Like a jarring visual collage with text.

Aran: they weren’t? my mistake then and no offence taken at all…I was talking tongue firmly in cheek!

Sigh. What did I do Anil, for my comments to be taken that way? They weren’t ironical.

I forgot - I meant Japanese Manga animation/picture books. The style of the piece and the way the action flows is quite Manga-esque - not exactly Manga but reminded me quite a bit of it. You should watch Ghost in the Shell - it’s really lovely! :)

Oh sweet Christ, graduated in 2003 as well!!! My god - as you can see, I am most excited about this! I was in the Dept of English and am reasonably sure that you must have seen me around Gops for sure - used to cause quite a stir since I smoked! And explored the campus every chance I got because it was so new for me, living in the midst of so much natural beauty. And the DJ nights were a treat - we had this senior who batted and bowled as part of the dance routine! I could go on and on - I had such a blast. :)
And I know what you mean about the campus - its changed like crazy but I am not sure about the city. For me, it still retains the same charm and laidback attitude it always did - maybe it’s because I am used to the hustle of Bby.
p.s. Sorry about the haazar long comment! :)

Aran: ah, is it so obvious? your ironic comments sure do bring me back to earth!
The CC: thank you…and I admire your mission…more power to you..may you spread more smiles…
Lc: thank as always…I tried in my own small way…
Jai: I already did.
gulnaz: thank you gulnaz, always a pleasure to read such things from you…am especially glad that you liked that bit of verse…
Extempore: thank you…but manga style? interesting…haven’t read anything in that genre so don’t know why this reminded you of that…
and you were in HCU?!! when? what did you do there? I did my Master’s there, in the School of Life Sciences. passed out in 2003. god! feels like such a long time ago now. did you get a chance to explore the campus? I fell in love with it…the rocks…the dirty lakes…the long roads…the quiet corners…gop’s…the rock (no, not the mushroom one)…bloody amazing library…the pathetic but redeemed-by-the-rock-show sukoon’s…dj nights…hostel life…mess food…must write about my time there sometime…
mmm…Haleem…didn’t venture much into the old city but Paradise, S’bad…yummy! as much as I wanted to get out of Hyd…I loved that place…it had a laid back charm then, which sadly is being fast replaced by the greedy gleam of new money…

Really good work, Anil.
p.s. Hyderabadi, eh? I spent 2 years at the Univ (Gachi Bowli) - am certainly honorary Hyderabadi and am headed back there for Eid! Esp the old city and Haleem! :)

The world within, Anil? Yes. Very easy and very soothing.
“He carefully imploded his shy social sunshine to manufacture it and then poured into it the fires of his repressed personality.” Yes. It’s exactly how you want it to be.
